Dr Eddie – Clinical Psychologist, Author and Mental Health Advocate.

Dr. Eddie is the psychologist on RTE’s Operation Transformation where his practical, respectful and hope orientated approach using cutting edge psychological research – CBT, Mindfulness, Solution Focused therapy, to help you become your real self.

Dr. Eddie is an engaging, dynamic and entertaining public speaker and has given many seminars and training events on mental health, wellness to the general public, schools, professionals, organisations and companies.

Dr. Eddie is a clinical psychologist, mental health expert, author, teacher, & life coach committed to promoting enduring change using cutting edge psychological research to help you become your real self. He completed a Masters in Health Psychology in City University London, his Doctorate of Psychological Science in Clinical Psychology in University College Dublin (1997 – 2000) and the MBA at UCD Smurfit School of Business in 2009.  He is a lecturer, supervisor, researcher and author of professional publications.

Dr. Eddie is a Head of Psychology / Principal Clinical Psychologist working in the HSE and is committed to providing professional psychology passionately and promoting successful outcomes using CBT, Mindfulness, Solution Focused therapies for children, adults, families, communities and organisations. He has a specialist interest in trauma and PTSD.

He is the psychologist on RTE’s Operation Transformation where his practical, respectful and hope orientated approach has opened the hidden doors of the therapy room to the public at large. He has contributed extensively to local and national media including RTE’s Marian Finucane show & The John Murray Show, The Irish Independent, Irish Daily Mail and RTE Guide.

EDUCATION

Eddie emigrated in the 1980’s and completed a Masters in Health Psychology in City University, London.  Eddie returned to Ireland in 1997 and completed his Doctor of Psychological Science in Clinical Psychology in UCD. Within this program Eddie worked in the Central Remedial Clinical, Crumlin Children’s Hospital, Mater Hospital, Ennis Community Mental Health Services, Limerick Brothers of Charity Services & The Institute of Psychiatry London.  In 2009 Eddie completed an MBA at UCD Smurfit School of Business and excelled in courses on change and leadership.

Eddie’s doctoral thesis looked at Psychological Profile of Cardiac Patients. He worked as a Clinical Psychologist in Cardiac Rehabilitation in his native Laois.

Eddie is interested in the link between psychological health and physical illness — including cardiac disease, chronic pain, diabetes, overweight etc

Eddie also has a specialist interest and works with agency and organizations eg. Laoise Fire & Rescue Service in the area of Trauma — Critical Incident Stress Management, Acute Stress, & Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Provides health and personal social services for all of Ireland, (130,000 employees; €14.7 billion budget)

 

Principal Psychology Manager – Head of Discipline

  • Manage psychology services, including resources and budgets, across Primary Care, Children, Adults, Elderly, Mental Health, Physical Illness and Disability Services in Carlow and Kilkenny (125,000 pop)

  • Manage and provide professional leadership to 20 professional staff in provision of psychology services.
